Root cause

Analysts describe a governance capture: a parameter change queued through the vault's governance module executed after the voting window, with its first step disabling the timelock. Term has confirmed a governance exploit but, as far as we found, no technical post-mortem. Details of how voting power was obtained differ between sources.

  • DAO roles revoked and Meta Vaults shut down, per Nexus Mutual; distributions to depositors planned. (reported)

Defensive lessons from the class

  • Price the attack: what does it cost to win a vote versus what the vote controls.
  • Add delays and veto windows after a vote passes.
